USA Boxing Elite High Performance Team Earns Three Victories on Day Two of World Boxing Cup: China 2026

The USA Boxing Elite High Performance Team secured three more victories on day two of the World Boxing Cup: China 2026. Team USA saw two boxers advance to the Round of 16 and one boxer move on to the quarterfinals in Guiyang City, China.
Marcus Luther (65 kilograms) got it started for Team USA on Tuesday with a dominant 5-0 victory over Saudi Arabia's Mousa Alhawsaw. Luther won the opening round 5-0 before turning up the pressure in the second round, earning another 5-0 score after delivering an 8-count to Alhawsaw. Four judges scored the second round 10-8 in Luther's favor. Luther now advances to the Round of 16, where he will face 2025 World Boxing Championships silver medalist Yuri Falcao on Thursday, June 18.
Following Luther, Lorenzo Patricio (55 kilograms) dominated his bout from start to finish, earning a 5-0 unanimous decision victory over Singapore's Clayden Teo. Patricio swept all three rounds on every scorecard, securing his sixth international victory of 2026 and third unanimous decision win of the year. Patricio is back in the ring on Wednesday, June 17, facing Taiwan’s Chia-Feng Peng in Session 2, Ring A, Bout 7 at approximately 8:30 a.m. ET.
Team USA earned its first female victory of the tournament on Tuesday after Simona Winkler (70 kilograms) secured her fourth international victory this year. Winkler won the opening round 3-2 before dominating the second round 5-0, with all five judges scoring it 10-8. Winkler landed a clean shot on Ireland's Evelyn Igharo that forced the referee to administer an 8-count. Winkler went on to win by abandonment after the conclusion of the second round. The Seattle native will now move on to the quarterfinals to face England’s Chantelle Reid on Friday, June 19.
Also boxing for the United States on Tuesday were Yoseline Perez (54 kilograms), Deborah Grant (57 kilograms), and Naomi Graham (75 kilograms). All three boxers went the distance but came up short on the judges' scorecards.
Looking ahead to Wednesday, Team USA will have three boxers in action as Salim Ellis-Bey (60 kilograms) returns to the ring following his 3-2 win on day one. Ellis-Bey will face Kazakhstan’s Serik Temirzhanov in the Round of 16 in Session 1, Ring B, Bout 4 at approximately 12:45 a.m. ET. Following Ellis-Bey, Marie Rosendo (65 kilograms) will make her tournament debut against Mongolia’s Tsetsegdari Myagmarsuren in Session 2, Ring A, Bout 1 at approximately 6:30 a.m. ET. Lorenzo Patricio (55 kilograms) will conclude Team USA’s day against Taiwan’s Chia-Feng Peng in Session 2, Ring A, Bout 7 at approximately 8:30 a.m. ET.
