California Border
President#
I have been around in our LBC for close to ten years as an Official, the last four years, as the Chief Of Official for California Border LBC44. I have been doing volunteer work for over 20yrs. I started volunteering at my kids elementary school for many years. Then started volunteering feeding the homeless with non-profit organizations in San Diego for many years as well. , Ten years ago, I found the boxing community.
Why I'm interested in this position is simple, I want to continue to grow our LBC here in San Diego. I'd like to host more fundraising events, pro-am shows, and even a two day tournament here in San Diego. I would like to see our LBC host banquet events to recognize the talented athletes and coaches we have in our LBC. I'd like the LBC to provide more financial support to athletes and coaches who travel to national events, and provide more learning opportunities like seminars/clinics available to coaches/athletes.
As your COO I've done so much to grow our LBC and bring gyms, coaches, and athletes together, so you can only imagine what I will do as your President.
I am interested in serving on the board of our local boxing committee because our LBC has been relatively dormant for several years. There is much division and animosity among our members which leads to a lack of participation by our athletes at our boxing events. This needs to change and I believe that this change needs to start at the top. I graduated from San Diego State University and was a high school U.S. History and Spanish teacher for over 30 years. I am now retired from education. I have extensive experience being at the forefront of organizations and know very well how to run business meetings. I have been an active member of USA Boxing for almost 35 years and have coached several local, regional and national champions. I also coached a national champion of Mexico who won a gold medal for Mexico in a Pan-American Tournament.
I can continue but I hope this is enough information. I am glad to answer any questions that you might have. Thank you.
Being a USA Boxing official, judge, and referee within LBC 44 California Border, I originally decided to join our organization in order to give back to our amateur boxing community, a community that made me realize that if I could put effort towards competing, then I could put that same effort into my education. For this reason, over the past year and a half I have made it a goal to serve our LBC by attending/working all of our local events. Furthermore I also strive to give our athletes my best performance by frequently attending local events in the Southern California LBC 33 area to sharpen my ring mechanics and judging.
In addition to officiating, I also started up our organization's Instagram and website which has allowed for better communication within the LBC, (while also creating photo/video content).
As far as leadership experience goes, I have also served as an English/Math tutor, boxing coach, and assistant to our current Registration Chair at one of our LBC gyms, the ABC Youth Foundation; which serves at risk youth in the area of Southeast San Diego. In addition, I was also the Commanding Officer of my high school's ROTC program and worked as a Peer Counselor at San Diego Mesa College where I'm currently majoring in Criminal Justice, in hopes of attending an Ivy League Law School.
I believe that the dedication I have for the sport of boxing and my desire to always improve will serve our LBC well, I am a believer in life long learning and have a strong sense of justice, when voices are not heard and leadership is at a mediocre level, throughout my life I have always made it a goal to do the right thing and rise above expectations. By hopefully securing a spot within our LBC Board of Directors, I will be in a better position to make differences within our LBC and make sure that the interests of our members is taken into account with urgency.
I am aware that in terms of age and as a non-athlete member of our LBC, on paper, my experience may seem minimal. But to refer to the answer I give everyone who asks me why I stopped fighting to become an official, I always made a better leader than I did a boxer. With that being said, should I be blessed with the opportunity to serve on our board, I guarantee everyone that I will put in my best effort to contributing to our athletes, and I will constantly learn from the many wise and experienced community members that have came before me.
Thank you for your consideration

Dear members of the LBC,
I am writing to express my strong desire to be considered for the position of Vice President in the upcoming election. Having previously served as the President of the LBC, I have had the privilege of witnessing the incredible growth and development of our organization. Now, I believe it is time for me to take on a new role that aligns with my current commitments and aspirations.
Since joining the LBC in 2008, I have been an active and dedicated member. Throughout the years, I have actively participated in various initiatives, served on the board for four years, and have had the opportunity to work closely with the boxing community. These experiences have enriched my understanding of the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for our organization.
I am passionate about supporting the growth and development of boxing, and I am proud of the work we have accomplished thus far. As I transition into focusing more on my personal students, I still want to contribute to the success of the LBC in a meaningful way. By taking on the role of Vice President, I can continue to lend my expertise and experience to help build our organization even further.
If entrusted with this position, I will bring a collaborative and inclusive approach to the table. I firmly believe in fostering a sense of unity and teamwork among our members, ensuring that their voices are heard and their needs are met. I am committed to creating an environment that encourages innovation, transparency, and accountability.
My vision for the LBC is to see it flourish and expand its impact within the boxing community. By implementing strategic initiatives and forging strong partnerships, we can attract more members, secure greater resources, and create more opportunities for our athletes. Together, we can elevate the sport of boxing and inspire the next generation of champions.
I humbly ask for your support and consideration for the position of Vice President. I am confident that my dedication, experience, and passion will enable me to effectively serve the LBC and contribute to its continued success. Thank you for your time, and I look forward to the opportunity to serve you all in this new capacity.
Sincerely,
Berlin Kerney

The reason I am interested in this position is because our LBC needs a secretary and it's not a task many will do, but it's an important one for a non profit organization, especially if you want to grow your organization. That is important to me, that our LBC continues to grow, and I want to make sure that continues to happen for the next 4yrs.
As your COO I've done so much to grow our LBC and bring gyms, coaches, and athletes together and will continue to be there to help one way or another.

Why I'm interested in this position is simple, I want to continue to grow our LBC here in San Diego with the best officials and doctors in amatuer boxing. Continue to support the growth of amatuer boxing by providing educational experiences for new officials and those who want to advance in their craft. Continue to learn and grow with the ever changing rules of USA boxing, and make sure to provide that same opportunity to everyone who sits in the field of play.
