Hosting a USA Boxing Event
Types of USA Boxing Events#
USA Boxing oversees all amateur boxing sanctioned events in the United States from club shows to national tournaments. Here you will find information on the different types of events that can be hosted. For additional questions regarding hosting an event please email abanuet@usaboxing.org.
Typically, these events are local, neighborhood events, primarily held for the development of local athletes, coaches, and officials. Many of these events are held in local boxing clubs, community centers, gymnasiums, and other publicly accessible facilities. These events are not intended to fundraise or garnish financial support for anyone other than the immediate boxing community (the hosting club/gym, the LBC, etc.). Club events receive final approval from the hosting local boxing committee.
LBC events are like club events, but on a larger scale. LBC events are managed by the hosting LBC’s board of directors. Examples of these types of events are state/regional Golden Gloves or Junior Olympic tournaments. Requirements to host an LBC event are identical to those of a club event but must be entered by a board member of the hosting LBC.
These events are part of the Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions, held each year. Events in this category can only be hosted by a Golden Gloves franchisee or sub-franchisee, as designated by the Golden Gloves of America. As a group member with USA Boxing, Golden Gloves events can implement additional rules or regulations, as long as they do not conflict with USA Boxing’s national rulebook. Golden Gloves event holders receive a discount for hosting multi-day events and require final approval from the hosting local boxing committee.
Pro-Am sanctions contain a mixture of professional and amateur bouts at the same event. This type of sanction is like a club show, with the exception the host must pay the LBC 100.00 per amateur bout on the card and is required to submit proof of liability and medical insurance for the professional segment of the event, to the USA Boxing national office. Pro-ams can only be approved by the national office.
The primary objective of a 3rd Party/ Fundraiser event is to raise money or further the efforts of an external organization through a USA Boxing sanctioned event (meaning some, or all, the proceeds leave the hosting club, LBC and/or USA Boxing). There are various factors USA Boxing review to help determine this classification. 3rd party events can only be approved by the national office. Please refer to the USA Boxing Rulebook for more information.
National Events are ran by the USA Boxing National Office and are bid out to cities throughout the country.
These events are typically week-long tournaments that bring over 1,000 boxers to compete in up to four different rings.
