Sherman boxing gym trains “military-style

SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) - The Camp is more than a place to box, the training is shaping the kids in the ring and out of it.

Andre Luper is the owner and head coach of this boxing gym. As a veteran, he is big on discipline and trains the kids “military style.”

Luper took up boxing at the young age of 11. He says growing up, he was bullied, and as a result started the gym and anti-bullying classes.

Many of the kids say they train hard, and some of them are seeing results. Luper says they have “four golden glove titles, five championship belts, and a national junior Olympic finalist.”

'This is what I love to do': Corpus Christi boxer Julian Delgado sets eyes on Olympics

Before Julian Delgado was turning heads as a National Golden Gloves Boxing Champion, the 22-year-old King High School graduate was establishing himself as a successful wrestler.

Delgado qualified for the UIL Class 5A state tournament three times with the Mustangs and won a gold medal at the 18th-annual Cy Fair Wrestling Championship his senior season.

Roswell High hosts 3rd annual Bullies against Bullying boxing tournament

The Bully Boxing Gym held the third annual Bullies Against Bullying Boxing Tournament this past weekend with fighters from all over the southwest competing at the Roswell High School main gym.

The tournament is meant to acknowledge and bring awareness that bullying is a major stressor in children’s lives online and in school. Tasha Esparza of Bully Boxing Gym is one of the organizers of the event and said that kids would come to their gym to train due to bullying.

“We have a bunch of children that come through and say that they are being bullied at school, asking how to defend themselves,” Esparza said. She said that they would teach the kids how to box to give them confidence and teach them to confront their bullies without conflict.

DuBois boxer earns gold at United States women’s tournament

DUBOIS, Pa. (WTAJ) – A DuBois boxer is bringing home the gold and her friends, family and community couldn’t be more proud of her.

Aviana Gillaugh just finished competing at the United States International Women’s Tournament in the junior division. She earned gold for performance.

16-Year Old Local Boxer Honored by City of Joliet

Joseph Awinongya Jr., better known as JoJo, was honored in a proclamation ceremony on July 18 at Joliet City Hall to celebrate his extraordinary achievements.

JoJo, a boxer at just 16 years old, has won 19 national championships, is the top rank in his age group and weight class for the country, is on the Team USA's junior Olympic boxing team, began college when he was 13, has his GED and associates degree, and recently received a full ride scholarship to the University of St. Francis, among other accomplishments.
