USA Boxing Confirms Santiago 2023 Pan American Games Team

USA Boxing has officially unveiled the 13 boxers who will proudly represent Team USA at the upcoming Santiago 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, with boxing competition scheduled from Oct. 19 to Oct. 28, 2023.

This year’s Pan American Games team is highlighted by Team USA’s Rahim Gonzales (Las Vegas, Nev.), who won the 2023 Strandja International Tournament. Gonzales, the 2021 World Champion, also placed first in the 2023 Gee Bee International Tournament and third in the Czech Grand Prix. Another standout boxer is Naomi Graham (Fayetteville, N.C), the sole Olympian on the roster, aiming for a historic back-to-back gold medal performance at these Pan American Games.

Emilio Garcia (Laredo, Texas) was the 2023 Gee Bee International Tournament champion and the 2022 USA Boxing International Invitational champion. Omari Jones (Orlando, Fl.) was crowned champion at the 2023 Gee Bee International Tournament, 2023 Czech Republic Grand Prix, USA Boxing International Invitational. He also placed silver in the Elite World Championships in 2021.

The team is also comprised of three additional international gold medalists from 2023, including Jahmal Harvey (Oxon Hill, Md.), the 2023 Czech Grand Prix winner, and the 2023 Gee Bee International Tournament champions Morelle McCane (Cleveland, Ohio) and Jamar Talley (Camden, N.J.). McCane also earned a silver at this year’s Czech Grand Prix, while Talley brought home a bronze at this February’s Strandja Tournament.

2022 AMBC Continental Champions Roscoe Hill (Spring, Texas) and Jennifer Lozano (Laredo, Texas) will look to have repeat performances in Santiago, while 2022 AMBC Continental Championships bronze medalist Joshua Edwards (Houston, Texas), rounds out the men’s roster. Edwards and Lozano have both added medals to their resume this year, with both taking bronze at the Czech Grand Prix and Lozano taking another bronze at the Gee Bee International Tournament.

The women’s team is completed by three-time amateur World Champion Jajaira Gonzalez (Glendora, Calif.), 2022 USA Boxing Elite National Champion Alyssa Mendoza (Caldwell, Idaho) and 2022 Youth World Champion Yoseline Perez (Houston, Texas). Gonzalez and Perez will be looking for their first international medal of 2023 after being added to the USA Boxing High Performance Team halfway through the year, while Mendoza will look to pick up her fourth international medal of 2023 after winning one silver medal and two bronze medals earlier this year.

“We just finished coming back from Great Britain after having a fantastic training camp” USA Boxing Head Coach Billy Walsh on Team USA’s training for the Pan American Games. “We’re in the process of having another training camp here with four or five nations, so our team will be ready to compete and I think we’re in a good position looking at what the opposition will look like.”

These Pan American Games will serve as the first official qualifier for USA Boxing to next summer’s Olympic Games in Paris and will begin on Oct. 19. To stay updated on the team’s schedule, results and how to watch, click here.
