Team USA Secured Two Wins on Opening Day in the International Invitational

Team USA started 2-1 on the opening day of the 2024 USA Boxing International Invitational in Pueblo, Colo. Jennifer Lozano (Laredo, Texas) and Kayla Gomez (El Paso, Texas) got the first set of wins for the stars and stripes as they both survive and advance.


Lozano got the evening started for Team USA in the second bout of the day as she dominated in all aspects over Sofie Rosshuag out of Denmark. The Paris 2024 Olympic Games qualified boxer took every round including 10-8 scorecards from every judge in the second round. The Laredo native won on a unanimous decision including two 30-25 scorecards.


The 54 kg alternate, Kayla Gomez, secured Team USA second victory of the day as she won on a unanimous decision against Brazil’s Olympic qualified boxer, Tatiana Chagas. Gomez took the first round 3-2 and followed that with two dominant rounds to win the bout by unanimous decision.


Team USA 54 kg representative, Shera Mae Patricio (Waianae, Hawaii), competed today, but fell short on a 4-1 split decision to Charley Davison out of Great Britain. Patricio kept it close in the first two rounds as she fell 3-2 each round to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games qualified boxer, but in the fifth Davidson outperformed Patricio and secured a 5-0 round, leading to a 4-1 split decision victory in favor of the boxer from Great Britain.


Day two for Team USA will consist of seven boxers, including 2024 Paris Olympic Games qualified boxer, Jahmal Harvey, (Oxon Hill, Md.).  Joining the Olympic boxer includes Terry Washington, (San Bernardino, Calif.), Dedrick Crocklem (Tacoma, Wash.), Amir Anderson (Syracuse, N.Y.), Robby Gonzales (Las Vegas, Nev.), Keon Davis (Norfolk, Va.) and Danel Brown (Philadelphia, Pa.)

50 kg: Jennifer Lozano, Laredo, Texas/USA, dec. over Sofie Rosshuag /GBR, 5-0

54 kg: Charley Davison/GBR, dec. over Shera Mae Patricio, Waianae, Hawaii/USA

57 kg: Kayla Gomez, El Paso, Texas/USA dec. over Tatiana Chagas/ Brazil
