Louisville, Ky., is home to one of the greatest boxers ever to step foot in the ring, as Muhammad Ali's legacy still echoes through the city. The city has been seeking a rising star in the sport of boxing, and after searching for many years, it appears their prayers have finally been answered.

Lavant Brownlee is quickly emerging as Louisville's next big star, poised to become the city's next boxing icon. Brownlee's boxing journey began over 10 years ago, when he was just 8 years old, and he explained it wasn't hard for him to find motivation or inspiration at such a young age.

"Muhammad Ali was always a big figure,” Brownlee stated. “He’s on buildings, and they even have the Muhammad Ali Center. We go there all the time. I always hear stories about how he used to come out here. My coach tells stories about how he would leave his Rolls-Royce outside the gym and would come in.”

Now, it is Brownlee's turn. The Louisville native's 31-8 record proves he has dominated the boxing rings on American soil and that he is ready to take the next leap in his career. Brownlee recently won gold at the 2024 USA Boxing National Championships and was later selected to represent Team USA on their 2025 Youth High Performance Team.

Louisville's next boxing star is writing his own story, and the historic city is thrilled to watch its next boxing phenom on the international stage. Brownlee will represent Team USA at 65 kg at the 2025 Brandenburg Cup in Frankfurt (Oder), Germany, making his international debut.

Brownlee's height and size set him up for a successful journey in Germany and a smooth transition to the Elite stage. The 6-foot-5 boxer is tall for his weight class, and after watching his speed and power, it is clear he is destined for greatness.

“I have to go to Germany to show my skills,” Brownlee stated. “If I can showcase my full potential, then that’ll help me take a step toward my ultimate goal: LA 2028.”

Before he targets LA 2028, he made sure to emphasize his mind is on that gold medal in Bradenburg next week.

“I’m going to dominate whoever gets in that ring with me,” Brownlee confidently stated. “I’m a hard worker. I strive to be the best version of myself. I have to have my mind right and manifest that gold medal in Germany.”

Brownlee is a boxer who quickly stood out to many, and his Olympic journey begins now. Brandenburg marks an opportunity for Brownlee to put his name on the map and be an LA 2028 candidate.
