Richard Torrez Jr. Named Vice Chair to World Boxing Athletes Committee
by USA Boxing
Earlier this morning, Richard Torrez, a Tokyo 2020 Olympic silver medalist and current professional American boxer, was elected to be the Vice Chair of World Boxing’s Athletes Committee. Torrez was elected to the World Boxing Athletes Committee in September 2025, during the 2025 World Boxing Championship in Liverpool, England, and will now serve in an even higher role as Vice Chair.
Torrez is one of six athletes on the committee, alongside Us Naz Çakıroğlu (Turkey), Caitlin Parker (Australia), Daniel Pitt (Wales), Yojerlin Cesar (France) and Zareen Nikhat (India). Now, he will serve as Vice Chair on the Athletes Committee with Parker serving as Chair.
I think it’s a crucial part of World Boxing because, at the end of the day, everything is about the athlete,” Torrez stated. “I think these next couple of years are where the voice really is going to matter and how we can make boxing great.”
The World Boxing Athletes Committee provides advice and guidance to World Boxing and gives boxers a voice in the organisation's development and future. Torrez was elected to the committee by boxers who competed at the 2025 World Boxing Championships. Now that he is Vice Chair of the committee, he will be invited to and will contribute to World Boxing Executive Board meetings and Congress sessions.
Torrez was a 2020 Olympic Games silver medalist and is now 14-0 in his professional boxing career with 12 knockouts. He consistently gives back to USA Boxing and often serves as a leader, offering advice and tips to the current Elite High Performance Team.
