The USA Youth High Performance Team secured four wins on Friday at the 53rd annual USA Boxing National Junior Olympics and Summer Festival in Las Vegas Nev.
The Patricio brothers were both able to capitalize on their speed and jabs, earning two dominant wins to advance to the finals of their respective weight classes and divisions. Landon Patricio (male 55 kg) was the first Team USA Youth High Performance boxer to compete on Friday and logged a 5-0 win over Saleem Rafaie. Lorenzo Patricio (male 50 kg) earned a 4-1 split decision victory, earning his second win of the event. Lorenzo will advance to the finals in the Elite division and take on Kamauri Rainey. Landon will square off against Erick Santos in the Youth division finals.
I love doing what I do," said Lorenzo after his dominant victory in the semifinals. "I like to have fun in the ring. The goal is to go win gold tomorrow.
Also representing Team USA from Hawaii was the lone female competitor this afternoon, Alexis Tangaro (female, 54 kg). The Hawaiian native defeated her opponent on a 3-2 split decision in her 2025 USA Boxing National Junior Olympics and Summer Festival debut.
I got the first day out of the way, and the next thing up is finals," Tangaro stated after a gritty win. "All I want to do tomorrow is be better than today, that is it.
Rounding out the High Performance team's victories on the day was Salim Ellis-Bey (male, 65 kg), who earned a 4-0 split decision over Miguel Pena Roma.
Joining these four boxers in the finals is Jose Vasquez, who advances to the finals in the 70 kg division with a walkover victory. Lauryn Elmore (female 65 kg), Joseph Awinongya (male 80 kg), Kayla Maria Moore (80+ kg), and Nnajai Wright (90+ kg) will look to earn gold in the USA Boxing National Junior Olympics tomorrow.
Angel Blancarte (male, 85 kg) also competed this afternoon but unfortunately fell short on a 4-1 split decision. Blancarte will look to bounce back next month when the team heads to Germany for the Brandenburg Cup.
