by USA Boxing
The 102nd annual National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions concluded last weekend in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The prestigious event was hosted May 12-17, inside the Arvest Convention Center.
The 2025 National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions saw 275 boxers from across the nation travel to Tulsa to try to compete for gold medals. Nineteen boxers were crowned champions across 10 male and nine female weight classes.
Lorenzo Patricio, a gold medalist at the 2024 World Boxing U19 Championships and a Team USA Youth High Performance team member, earned two RSC decisions and secured a gold medal after his dominant performance. Patricio boxed in the 110-pound weight class, which consisted of 12 boxers. Ultimately, Patricio capped his impressive week by defeating Oscar Hernandez in the championship bout.
"Lorenzo 'Sparky' Patricio is electrifying," National Junior & Youth Coach Edward Fonteneaux stated on Patricio's Golden Gloves performance. "He always wows the crowd when he enters the ropes. He has the potential to be an LA28 hopeful."
"It felt good winning the tournament," said Patricio. "I gained many new fans and supporters, showed off my skills to many different people and got to represent not only Hawai'i, but Pennsylvania, too. I had a good tournament run, performed well and dominated every fight I had. Every win, tournament and every gold medal is special, but what made this win more special is knowing my older sister [Shera] won the tournament two years ago and set history as the youngest female from Hawai'i to win the tournament and now, I won the tournament, setting history as the youngest male from Hawai'i to win the tournament. Also, it gave me relief and took some weight off my shoulders winning because I was so busy prior to the tournament. Prior to the tournament, I had selection camp for Team USA and finals, tests, school work and final preparations for graduation."
Other notable winners at the 102nd annual National Golden Gloves Tournament of Champions include Team USA High Performance training partners Tyric Trapp and Marcus Luther. Elite High Performance Squad member Steven Colome also competed in the event.
"It feels good to win a tournament that a lot of greats in the sport have won, like Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, Ray Robinson and Floyd Mayweather Jr.," Luther said after claiming his title and the Golden Boy award. "To be put in the history books with those guys, it shows what level I'm on, how far I can go in the sport and how much I can achieve."
USA Boxing will now look ahead to the 2025 Junior Olympics & Summer Festival June 14-21, in Las Vegas, Nev. The 2025 USA Boxing Junior Olympics & Summer Festival will be open for all divisions: Pee Wee, Bantam, Intermediate, Junior, Youth, Elite, and Masters.
