Sheehy Starts Team USA with Victory

Team USA started the 2021 Boxam Tournament in Castellón, Spain in the win column. 

Charlie Sheehy (Brisbane, Calif.), who was the lone American boxer to compete today, grabbed a unanimous decision over Lithuania’s Modestas Zmuidnia. Sheehy will have a day of rest before returning to action against Lounes Hamraoui of France.


Tomorrow will see all four of Team USA’s women begin their tournament run. A full schedule for tomorrow can be seen below.



Joining Sheehy in Thursday’s bouts will be the three remaining men,
Bruce Carrington (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Darius Fulghum (Houston, Texas) and Anthony Herrera (East Los Angles, Calif.).


National Head Coach
Billy Walsh (Colorado Springs, Colo.), along with National Strength and Conditioning Coach Jose Polanco (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and assistant coaches Tim Back (Cincinnati, Ohio), Marc Gargaro (Newton, Mass.), Christine Lopez (Rowlett, Texas) and Jeff Mays (San Antonio, Texas) will be guiding the American’s throughout the tournament, which has brought over 100 boxers from 17 different countries to compete.
