2021 Youth World Championships and High Performance Update - March 4

USA Boxing announced today that it will not be fielding a team for the 2021 Youth World Championships, scheduled for this April in Poland.
With this announcement, USA Boxing will turn its focus to the 2021 Youth Pan American Games, which is scheduled to take place in Cali, Colombia this September. The event, which will be the first ever of its kind, will showcase youth boxers, born in 2003 and 2004, in the 13 Olympic weight categories, who have qualified by way of the AMBC Confederation Youth Boxing Qualifier, taking place in Cali, Columbia in June.
The 2021 Youth Pan Am Games Qualification Team will be determined based on the results of the 2020 USA Boxing Youth National Championships (March 25-April 3, 2021 in Shreveport, Louisiana). The champion in each Olympic weight category will be given the first opportunity to participate in the AMBC Qualification Pathway. If the selected boxer is not able to participate, the next highest ranked boxer from the National Championships in the same weight category will serve as the replacement athlete.
Special Notice to Men’s Weight Categories
For the purpose of selecting boxers to compete in Olympic weight categories not contested at the 2020 Youth National Championships, USA Boxing will select the top ranked finisher from the closest weight category conducted at the 2020 USA Boxing Youth National Championships to fill the Olympic weight. The champion from the 56kg weight category will be selected to fill the 57kg weight division, and the champion from the 64 kg weight category would be selected to fill the 63kg weight division.
Note: The 49kg/108lb and 60kg/132lb weight divisions will not compete for a place on the 2021 Youth Pan American Games Qualification Team.
Full Athlete Selection Procedures will be posted online in the coming week.
As a reminder, USA Boxing is the National Governing Body of boxing in the United States and can only submit teams to a World Championships, therefore, boxers will not be allowed to fund their own trip to Poland and compete.
