Ellis and Graham Win Gold; Fuchs Takes Silver at 2021 Boxam Tournament

by USA Boxing

Team USA closed out the 2021 Boxam Tournament in Spain with two golds and one silver medal.

Naomi Graham (Fayetteville, N.C.) added a third Boxam title to her resume after her win over Pooja Irani of India. The middleweight proved to be too much over Irani, who has already punched her ticket to this summer’s Olympics at the Asian Qualifier. Graham dominated all three rounds, which including giving her opponent a standing eight count in the second round to pick up all five judges’ cards.

Lightweight
Rashida Ellis (Lynn, Mass.) was scheduled to be the first American to step into the ring today, however, her opponent, Kaur Baath Simranjit of India, pulled out prior to the start of the day to give Ellis the gold medal.

Virginia Fuchs (Houston, Texas) finished the day for the Americans with a strong performance against Russia’s Svetlana Soluianova, however, she ended up falling just short in a 3-2 decision to give her the silver medal.

Team USA will return to the United States tomorrow and have a short break before returning to training camp in Chula Vista, Calif. to prepare for the Americas Olympic Qualifier that is set to take place in May in Argentina.
