2022 USA Boxing National Championships Heading to Lubbock

by USA Boxing

USA Boxing announced today the 2022 edition of their National Championships will take place at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center in Lubbock, Texas, Dec. 3-10.

Lubbock, TX provides an ideal destination for members in its geographic location, accessibility, and affordability. With five major highways intersecting Lubbock, it is easily accessible by car. Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport makes air travel easy too, with service from 3 major airlines: American, Southwest, and United. Most hotels are within a short 15-minute drive from the airport and the venue offering competitive and affordable group rates. Finally, the venue offers free parking to those driving in, and quality hotels within walking distance for those forgoing a rental vehicle.

These factors kept costs low attributed to a very successful 2021 National Junior Olympics & Summer Festival, held in Lubbock in July of last year. Feedback from the Coaches After Action Survey supports this with some coaches saying:

“Everything was easy to get to. No more than maybe 45 minutes to some restaurants. I loved the ease if traveling to the venue as well as to the local restaurants”

“We drove from Southern California, so it was a long drive but once in Lubbock we had an excellent time. Very affordable, everything was close and accessible.”

“We loved it!!! The food, the people and the city were amazing. It was way better than Louisiana. Wish it was in Texas again.”

So, when Lubbock Sports expressed interest in hosting our December event as well, it was hard to find a reason not to say yes.

“We are very excited to be headed back to Lubbock, TX for the 2022 National Championships,” said Taryn Cass, National Events Coordinator. “In addition to the ideal city characteristics, the decision was made easier by the confidence we have with Visit Lubbock and Lubbock Sports to support us in running a successful event and providing a great experience for the participants.”

“We are thrilled to announce Lubbock as the location for the 2022 USA Boxing National Championships,” said John Osborne, president and CEO of Lubbock Sports. “Our ongoing partnership with USA Boxing continues to elevate the strong boxing community found within our region, and highlights the dedicated boxers who go toe-to-toe against top athletes from across the country. We look forward to getting back in the ring for an exciting competition this winter!”

This year’s championships are anticipated to bring close to 1,000 boxers in the bantam to elite divisions hoping to walk away with a national title.

This will mark USA Boxing’s second year in a row in Lubbock, as the city held the 2021 National Junior Olympics and will do so again in 2023.

Additional tournament information will be announced in the coming weeks.
