Team USA Goes 4-0 on third day of AMBC Elite Championships

by USA Boxing

Team USA went a perfect 4-0 during the third day of action at the 2022 AMBC Elite Championships, securing another four medals for the team.

2021 Elite World Championships silver medalist
Roscoe Hill (Spring, Texas) began the day on a high note for Team USA. Hill used his own unorthodox style to control the first two rounds of the bout, before fighting more on the inside with his opponent, going back and forth with Panama’s Martin Rene Perez Castillo. However, Hill was too much for Castillo and took all five judges’ cards to advance to Monday’s semifinal bout with 2020 Olympian Ramon Nicanor Quiroga of Argentina.

Omari Jones (Orlando, Fla.) continued USA Boxing’s winning ways with his own unanimous decision victory against Alexander Rangel Madariaga of Colombia to advance to the medal rounds in his second international tournament. The 2021 Elite World Championships silver medalist will take to the ring on Tuesday against Mexico’s Marco Alonso Verde Alvarez.

Middleweight
Obed Bartee-El (Harvest, Ala.) proved to be too much for his opponent, Dylan Martin of Canada, from the start, resulting the referee to stop the bout in the second round to clinch the 2021 Elite World Championships team member to advance to the semifinals and secure his first international medal. He will face Aaron Prince of Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday.

In what may be one of the highlight fights of the tournament,
Arjan Iseni (Staten Island, N.Y.) left it all in the ring in his international debut against Rogelio Romero of Mexico to take a 3-1 victory. After a close first round, the second round saw Romero get a point taken away, however, in the final round Iseni was giving a standing eight count by the referee. At the end of the final bell, the American had done enough to take the victory and advance to a semifinal matchup with Cuba’s Cordova Herich Ruiz, the 2021 Elite Men’s World Championships bronze medalist, on Monday.

Team USA will have three boxers’ step into the ring tomorrow,
Jahmal Harvey (Oxon Hill, Md.) and Jonathan Mansour (San Diego, Calif.) will compete in their second bout of the tournament, while Josh Edwards (Houston, Texas) will make his tournament debut.

The Americans medal count is now up to nine, with five more boxers hoping to secure a medal in the coming days.
