Team USA grabs three victories during third day of Strandja Tournament

Team USA picked up three more victories in Sofia, Bulgaria during the third day of boxing action at the 2023 Strandja Tournament. 


Emilio Garcia (Laredo, Texas) continued his winning ways with his third victory in three days. The light welterweight took all five judges’ cards over Jugurtha Ait Bekka of Algeria, his third unanimous decision victory of the tournament. Garcia will have a day of rest before boxing in his quarterfinal bout on Friday. 


Bantamweight Jewry Rodriguez (Houston, Texas) earned her second victory in the tournament to advance to the quarterfinals on Friday. Rodriguez won by unanimous decision over France’s Caroline Cruveillier. 


Naomi Graham (Fayetteville, N.C.) made her tournament debut in dominating fashion, winning her bout against Algeria’s Djouher Benan by RSC in the first round. Graham gave her opponent three standing eight counts before the referee officially called the bout. 


Three Americans, Rahim Gonzales (Las Vegas, Nev.), Jordan Roach (Upper Marlboro, Md.) and Jamar Talley (Camden, N.J.) will make their tournament debuts tomorrow morning.
