Boxing: Two young Alexandria area boxers finish in the top three at USA Boxing Jr. Olympics

WICHITA, KANSAS - Two young Alexandria area boxers, Lilly Gulbrandson, 14, and Hannah Dokka, 13, shined in Wichita, Kansas, at the USA Boxing Jr. Olympics National Tournament from July 14-16, as both earned top-three finishes in their respective weight divisions.

Both these young boxers train out at the Nordic Warriors Boxing Academy in Alexandria under the tutelage of the academy's owner Corey Thompson.

Golden Gloves: Coach says Garrobo can be as good as Holly Holm

At age 20, Peralta’s Alexa Garrobo is older than most amateur boxers with just 10 fights to her credit. Other pursuits – karate, soccer, her education – sometimes have interceded.

But don’t tell her, or her coach, that she’ll be in over her head when she steps into the ring against Colorado veteran and former national champion Lupe Gutierrez in Denver on Saturday.

LOCKHART BRINGS SILVER MEDAL HOME TO SULLIVAN BOXING

Stuttgart Gloves Not Guns Boxing Club to host turkey leg and baked goods fundraiser

Stuttgart Gloves Not Guns Boxing Club is hosting a baked goods and turkey leg fundraiser. Jalicia Wyatt, president of the boxing club, said all proceeds from the effort go towards competition registration fees and other related expenses.

“For the children to compete, we must pay a registration fee with USA Boxing. Expenses will be for traveling if we go out of state for hotel costs, food expenditures, and uniforms. They have to have the proper uniforms and shoes to compete,” Wyatt said.
