Jajaira Gonzalez, a native of Glendora, Calif., returned to the sport of boxing in 2021 after years of dominating in the junior and youth ranks. The 60 kg boxer took gold medals at the Junior World Championships, back-to-back Youth World Championships and Youth Olympics before finishing second at the 2016 Olympic Trials, then eventually taking a break from the sport in 2018. She returned at the 2021 Elite National Championships, taking gold, and most recently punched her ticket to the 2024 Olympics with a top four finish at the Pan American Games. She competed at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games where she defeated France’s Estelle Mossely in the opening round to silence the Paris crowd.
