2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Boxing and 2023 USA Boxing National Championships begin next week at CAJUNDOME

The 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Boxing and 2023 USA Boxing National Championships will begin, Monday, Dec. 4 in Lafayette, La, where over 800 boxers from various destinations from around the country will take part in the two highly anticipated events at the CAJUNDOME.  


“USA Boxing is excited to bring these two premier events to the city of Lafayette and the state of Louisiana, which has a history of hosting major USA Boxing events,” stated Mike McAtee, USA Boxing Executive Director. “Not only will we be able to showcase our talented hopefuls for next summer’s Olympic Games in Paris but have the first look at our Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games hopefuls during our National Championships.”


The two events will be host to the future and rising stars of boxing, as the 160 boxers boxing in the Olympic Trials will look to continue to make their run towards Paris, while the National Championships will help determine USA Boxing’s junior and youth high performance teams of 2024, as well as provide valuable experience for the events younger age divisions.


The 13 boxers who win their weight class in the Olympic Trials will advance to January’s High Performance Selection Camp, along with the second-place finisher in the female 54 kg weight class. With five boxers already qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, eight weight classes are still to determine who the boxer will be to represent Team USA at next year’s World Qualifiers with hopes to punch their ticket to Paris.


Competition for the Olympic Trials will begin Monday, Dec. 4 at 6:00 p.m. and will conclude with the 13 championship bouts on Saturday, Dec. 9 at noon.


The 2023 USA Boxing National Championships will see boxers in the bantam (10-11 years old), intermediate (12-13 years old), junior (14-15 years old), youth (16-17 years old) and elite non-Olympic weight classes (18-39 years old) divisions step into one of the four rings during the week-long event, where junior and youth age boxers will be boxing for a place on USA Boxing’s 2024 High Performance Teams.


Competition for the National Championships will kick off on Monday, Dec. 4 at noon, and run daily until Thursday at noon and 6:00 p.m., with finals taking place Friday, Dec. 8 at noon.


All boxers competing in Lafayette will be looking to earn points towards their USA Boxing National Rankings, as the top eight boxers in each weight category will receive points towards their 2024 rankings. Additional rankings information can be found here: https://bit.ly/USABoxingRankings

Tickets for the event can be purchased at will call, starting at $10 daily or $50 for a weekly pass, while Saturday’s championship bouts cost $25.
