Two Team USA Youth High Performance Athletes Compete at Junior Olympics and Summer Festival

USA Boxing is hosting the 53rd annual National Junior Olympics and Summer Festival this week at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The USA Youth High Performance Team will utilize the national event as preparation for the Brandenburg Cup, which will take place in Germany from July 29 through August 3. 

 

Team captain Salim Ellis-Bey (male 60 kg) and teammate Landon Patricio (male 55 kg) got things started for the Stars and Stripes in Las Vegas as both boxers earned dominant, unanimous decision victories.

 

Patricio was the first to enter the ring on Tuesday in the evening session and scored his first win of the tournament in the boxing capital of the world. The Waianae, Hawaii, native will now box Wednesday, June 18, in the 6 p.m. session against a Nevada native, Ramsey Sayson Cagata Ursua.

 

Ellis-Bey competed later in the evening session and dominated from start to finish, receiving multiple 10-8 scores to advance to the next round. The Philadelphia, Pa., 60 kg representative will now face off against Gabriel Gonzales during Wednesday's 6 p.m. session. 

 

Ten Team USA Youth High Performance members will be in action throughout the week in Las Vegas. The roster will have three athletes in action on Wednesday, including Jose Vasquez (Dallas, Texas), Patricio and Ellis-Bey. Vasquez will make his tournament debut in the 70 kg division.

 

Day three of the Junior Olympics and Summer Festival continues on Wednesday. The 2025 USA Boxing Junior Olympics and Summer Festival will continue through Saturday, June 21, with two daily sessions from Monday through Thursday, starting at 12:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday will consist of one session each day, beginning at noon.

 

Each session throughout the week of the 2025 USA Boxing Junior Olympics and Summer Festival will be broadcast live, free of charge, on the USA Boxing website and the USA Boxing YouTube page. Tickets to attend the event are available for purchase at the door for $10 for a day pass, $50 for a week-long pass and $25 to attend solely Saturday’s championship bouts.
