USA Boxing Response to Boxing Road to Tokyo Americas Qualifier Cancellation

by USA Boxing

“Like the rest of the world, we are continuing to cope with the COVID-19 pandemic and understand the safety and health of all those involved in this event, as well as fair opportunities for all boxers to compete, led to this extremely difficult decision of canceling this event during such a close and crucial time to the Tokyo Olympics.

We are disappointed for all of the Americas Boxing Federations’ boxers by this news, as well as for USA Boxing Olympic Qualification Team, as they were working extremely hard and ready to punch their ticket to Tokyo.

However, our team will continue to train and stay focused as we wait for updates from the Boxing Tasks Force (BTF) on their finalized qualification guidelines. At this time, we understand the allocation of the 49 quota places from this event will be announced by May 10 via the BTF Ranking, and the reallocation of the 13 quota places obtained from the cancelled World Olympic Qualifier will be announced by June 4, but understand this is all subject to change.”
