USA Boxing Announces First Annual Summer Boxing Festival

by USA Boxing

USA Boxing announced today the first ever USA Boxing Summer Boxing Festival will take place in Lubbock, Texas during the 2021 National Junior Olympics, introducing elite and collegiate boxers to the national tournament that is scheduled to take place July 7-17. For complete fact sheet click here

“The 2020 USA Boxing National Championships held March 25th through April 3rd in Shreveport, Louisiana brought us #BackToBoxing in a huge way, with nearly 1,000 matches contested and 2,000+ boxers, coaches, officials and admin coming together for the largest ever National Championships that we’ve ever held,” stated USA Boxing Events and Operations Manager Mike Campbell.  “This was a major cause for celebration, and we are now very happy to announce the beginning of a new era, the USA Boxing Summer Festival – a Celebration of Boxing in all aspects.”

“The Summer Boxing Festival will include new opportunities for boxers to compete and coaches & officials to continue their education and certification pathways,” continued Campbell.  “For the past year and a half, competition has been very limited throughout USA Boxing. The Summer Festival will include Elite men & women’s divisions with a minimum bout requirement and a collegiate boxer division with a maximum bout requirement.  College boxers who have been enrolled anytime between Spring 2020-Spring 2021, but do not have more than 15 bouts of experience can compete.”

Like the National Junior Olympics, this tournament will be open to boxers that meet the bout requirements for their division, which can be seen below, as well as the registration fee for their respective decision.

Boxers must upload all current documents (birthdate, citizenship and physical) verified and uploaded to their membership profile, as well as the minimum bout requirement in their matchtracker in order to register for this event. Please allow a minimum one full business day from uploading documents to be verified by USA Boxing before contacting USA Boxing Membership Services. Members must upload their own documents. Due to the expected large number of boxers interested in competing at this event, there will be a quota for each weight class. Once that quota is met, boxers will be added to a waitlist. The waitlist will be updated between June 15-21. No waitlist updates will be provided prior to June 15.

Once registered, boxers needing to change weight classes will be allowed to do so only between May 25-June 14, and only one weight change will be allowed per boxer.

Boxers who register have until May 24 to request a refund if they no longer can make the tournament, while boxers who wish to cancel their registration between May 25 – June 21 will have their registration fee transferred to a future event by notifying USA Boxing National Office. Boxers that do not notify USA Boxing will not be eligible for a refund or a transfer.

COVID-19 protocols for this event will be announced in the coming weeks, as USA Boxing will continue to track local and national guidelines to make the best regulations possible to hold a safe event.

Additional host hotel information, as well as tentative schedule and other tournament information will be released in the coming weeks on the event page here.
