Team USA’s Men’s and Women’s Youth Selection Camp is underway at the United States Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. The 18 boxers arrived on campus last night and will compete to represent the Stars and Stripes on the international level in 2025.

Team USA will be led by the two 2024 World Boxing U19 Championships gold medalists, Lorenzo Patricio (50kg) and Joseph Awinongya (80kg). Patricio and Awinongya dominated on their paths to gold medals last November, as Patricio won his 50kg title via unanimous decision. Awinongya earned a RSA victory, a unanimous decision and a 4-1 victory at the 2024 World Boxing U19 Championships to claim his gold medal in the 75kg division.

Team USA will see three familiar women's faces return to the selection camp, Joscelyn Olayo-Munoz (48kg), Laila Zakirova (51kg) and Violet Lopez (57kg). Zakirova will contend for a spot on the youth team for the second consecutive year after earning a bronze medal at the 2024 World Boxing U19 Championships. Olayo-Munoz, Zakirova and Lopez will provide a veteran perspective for the Youth team throughout the selection camp.

These rising stars will be in camp from April 20 through May 7, and will be scored based on the 2025 USA Boxing High Performance Team Selection procedures. Team USA’s Brandenburg preparation camp will be hosted in Colorado Springs, Colo., July 6-23. The Youth team will travel to Germany to compete in the Brandenburg Cup from July 29 through August 3.

The USA Boxing Youth team will be led by National Development Coach Edward Fonteneaux (Fayetteville, N.C.). Fonteneaux will be assisted by Jason Hamilton (Spanaway, Wash.), Blanca Gutierrez (Pacifica, Calif.), Alex Love (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Ronald Wright (Columbus, Ga.)
