Elite and Youth Divisions Highlight Day 3; First Female Bouts Take Place in Lubbock

by Brian Taylor, USA Boxing

The elite and youth boxers taking to the ring this evening at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center became one step closer to be crowning the first ever USA Boxing Summer Festival Champions for their respective divisions, while we saw our first female boxers take to the ring during the third day of action in Lubbock, Texas.

Close to 100 boxers took to one of the three rings this evening, from our youngest members to numerous former USA Boxing high performance team members and up and comers looking to make a statement before this December’s National Championships.

A few of those performances included a finals worthy matchup between Arjan Iseni (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Nasheed Smith (Washington, D.C.), which saw Iseni advance, as well as strong performances from Joseph Almajdi (Fort Worth, Texas), Emmanuel Carrillo (Wichita Falls, Texas), Fabian Diaz (Edinburg, Texas), Vershaun Lee (Rock Island, Ill.), Diego Luna (San Diego, Calif.), Bobbie Pettigrew (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Noah Timoteo (Waianae, Hawaii), to name a few.

The first bantam, elite and pee wee female boxers stepped under the bright lights and did not disappoint in their tournament debuts to keep their title hopes alive, as the winners will return to the ring on either Sunday or Monday.

Competition continues tomorrow night at 5:00 p.m. CST and can be watched on our free livestream here.
