Competition at 2023 Gee Bee Tournament to begin today

The 41st annual GeeBee Tournament in Helsinki, Finland begins this morning, with four of Team USA’s 11 boxers registered for the tournament stepping into the ring today, beginning at 8:00 a.m. ET. Full schedule can be found below.

Emilio Garcia (Laredo, Texas) will start the day for Team USA when he faces Sweden’s Hampus Bromman as his opening opponent for the second straight event. Garcia took a unanimous decision victory over Bromman at this year’s Strandja Tournament in Bulgaria.

Roscoe Hill (Spring, Texas) will make his 2023 international debut against Salah Ibrahim of Germany in bout six.

Bantamweight Jewry Rodriguez (Houston, Texas) will go head-to-head against Germany’s Zeina Nassar during bout 11, while welterweight Morelle McCane (Cleveland, Ohio) faces Finland’s Jenni Kiili in bout 16.

The remaining members of Team USA will begin their tournament run later this week.

USA Boxing Head Coach Billy Walsh (Colorado Springs, Colo.) will lead the team throughout their time in Helsinki along with National Resident Coach Timothy Nolan (Rochester, N.Y.), National Developmental Coach Chad Wigle (Colorado Springs, Colo.), and Christine Lopez (Rowlett, Texas).
