Four Team USA boxers advanced to today’s championship bouts of the 2023 Grand Prix after successful victories during yesterday’s semifinal contest.

Featherweight duo Alyssa Mendoza (Caldwell, Idaho) and Jahmal Harvey (Oxon Hill, Md.) picked up unanimous decision victories over Melissa Mortensen and Frederik Jensen of Denmark to advance to today’s gold medal bouts. Mendoza, who is competing in her first international final, will face Ireland’s Michaela Walsh, while Harvey will step into the ring against Ukraine’s Oleh Chuliacheivev.

Morelle McCane (Cleveland, Ohio) and Omari Jones (Orlando, Fla.) were the two other Americans to punch their tickets to the finals after both their opponents pulled out of the competition. Both McCane and Jones will be looking to clinch their second straight international gold medals after taking gold in Finland.

Four Team USA boxers added a bronze medal to their resume after yesterday’s bouts. Jennifer Lozano (Laredo, Texas) picked up her second straight bronze medal, while Jordan Roach (Upper Marlboro, Md.) earned his first international medal. Joshua Edwards (Houston, Texas) was pulled from the competition, resulting in his bronze medal, and Rahim Gonzales (Las Vegas, Nev.) put up one of the fights of the tournament to take bronze to add to his gold medal from Finland.
