Mendoza Advanced after Another Impressive Unanimous Decision Victory

Featherweight Alyssa Mendoza (Caldwell, Idaho) continued her impressive run at the 2024 Olympic Games World Qualifying Tournament in Bangkok, Thailand this morning, as she picked up her third unanimous decision victory of the tournament.


The Idaho native went head-to-head with Anastasiia Molochko out of Ukraine and dominated yet another bout from start to finish. Mendoza won all judges vote in all three rounds and has now won by unanimous decision in all three of her fights.  


Emilio Garcia (Laredo, Texas) and Shera Mae Patricio (Waianae, Hawaii) also went today. Garcia run in the mens lightweight division comes to an end as he fell short to Alexandru Paraschiv from Moldova, 4-1. Patricio run at the Olympics unfortunately comes to an end as well in the 54 kg weight division. The Hawaiian native lost 5-0 to Johana Gomez from Venezuela.


Team USA will have three boxers tomorrow morning in hopes of living their lifelong dream and punching their tickets to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Roscoe Hill (Spring, Texas) will get things started for Team USA and will go up against Gan-Erdene Gankhuyang from Mongolia. Following Hill will be Jamar Talley (Camden, N.J.) against Georgii Kushitashvili from Georgia. Lastly, Alyssa Mendoza will look to continue her dominant performances tomorrow against Maud Van Der Toorn from the Netherlands.


All three boxers will look to join the six boxers who qualified for Paris at the 2023 Santiago Pan American Games and the first 2024 Olympic Games World Qualification Tournament to bring Team USA’s total to nine qualified boxers.


Team USA is represented by seven boxers in Thailand who hope to punch their ticket to this summer’s 2024 Paris Olympic Games. The team is being guided by USA Boxing Head Coach Billy Walsh (Colorado Springs, Colo.), along with National Resident Coach Timothy Nolan (Rochester, N.Y.), as well as National Development Coach Chad Wigle (Colorado Springs, Colo.), along with assistant coaches Adonis Frazier (Minneapolis, Minn.) and Christine Lopez (Rowlett, Texas).
