Team USA Dominated Day Six and Picked Up Three More Wins

by Luke Santangelo

Team USA dominated day six and went 3-0 in Bangkok this morning as Jamar Talley (Camden, N.J.), Alyssa Mendoza (Caldwell, Idaho) and Roscoe Hill (Spring, Texas) all won on unanimous decisions.

Talley went against Leclerc Nogaus from Haiti and dominated from start to finish. Talley came out the red corner and controlled the whole bout. The Camden native won every round 5-0 and picked up a unanimous decision victory. Talley will now face Regarn Simbwa out of Uganda tomorrow for a spot in the qualifying round.

“I just got my second win, and I got two more. Job is not done, and we are still going until I get my ticket to Paris,” stated Talley after his second win in the Qualification tournament.

Mendoza followed Talley and faced off against Olga -Pavlina Papadatou out of Greece. Mendoza won every round including two unanimous rounds in the first and third round which led to her unanimous decision win. She will now go head-to-head against Anastasiia Molochiko from Ukraine on Saturday. The winner will advance to the qualifying round on June 2nd.

Hill was the last Team USA boxer to compete this morning as he had a rematch from the Pan American Games quarterfinals. Yuberjen Martinez from Spain and Hill squared off once again, but this time Hill dominated from start to finish.  Hill took the first round 3-2 but won 5-0 in last two rounds including a 10-8 score in the second round.

Tomorrow Team USA will have three boxers competing. If Emilio Garcia (Laredo, Texas) wins he will punch his ticket to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Garcia is going up against Oier Ibarrechee from Spain.

Also boxing tomorrow is Roscoe Hill and Jamar Talley. Hill will go up against Huthaifa Eshish from Jordan. These two boxers faced off against each other in Italy in the first World Qualification Tournament. Hill won on a unanimous decision and looks for a similar result tomorrow.  Talley will go tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. ET against Regarn Simbwa out of Uganda. If Hill and Talley both win they advance to the qualifying round.

Team USA is represented by seven boxers in Thailand who hope to punch their ticket to this summer’s 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
