by Brian Taylor, USA Boxing

USA Boxing National Office announced today the addition of Franchon Crews-Dezurn (Baltimore, Md) and Omari Jones (Orlando, Fla.) to the USA Boxing Board of Directors as Athlete Directors.

Crews-Dezurn, a member of USA Boxing since 2004, brings years of experience to her role. The current WBC and WBO super middleweight World Champion is serving her second four-year term as an Athlete Director for USA Boxing’s Board of Directors. Crews-Dezurn is one of USA Boxing alumni that is at the forefront of pushing women’s boxing to greater heights, having represented Team USA at numerous international competitions, including the first Pan American Games where females were allowed to box in 2011, as well as an amateur world championship silver and bronze medalist.

“Boxing has been a huge part of my life for over 14 years, the good, the bad and the ugly,” stated Crews-Dezurn. “Having the opportunity to continue advocating, assisting and being a liaison for athletes and staff is meaningful. We have so much talent here, male and female, so I am happy to be available to listen and offer support. A massive thank you to all the athletes who voted for me.”

Jones joined USA Boxing in 2011 and earned his place on his first USA Boxing High Performance team after winning the 2020 USA Boxing National Championships this past March. The middleweight represents the next generation of USA Boxing hopefuls, as he looks to make his international debut later this year and continue to make a push for the Olympic Games 2024 Paris.

“I must say being selected for the USA Boxing Board of Directors means a lot to me,” said Jones. “Being able to be the voice of our boxers is a very important responsibility and I plan to do my best to bring ideas to the table that are beneficial to our program as the athlete representative. I want to say thank you all for choosing and voting for me, this is something that I always wanted to be a part of. I will make this opportunity count.”

Crews-Dezurn and Jones will both serve four-year terms as Athlete Directors and join current Athlete Directors
Brian Ceballo (New York, N.Y.), Danielle Perkins (Houston, Texas) and Rahim Gonzales (Las Vegas, Nev.).
