by USA Boxing

Monday, July 26, brings the third day of boxing to the Kokugikan Arena. Troy Isley (Alexandria, Va.) will be the lone American to step inside the ring. The middleweight will compete in bout 10 during the second session of the day, which begins at 4:00 a.m. EST.

Troy Isley vs. Vitali Bandarenka/BLR

Isley will open his Olympic Games against the seasoned Vitali Bandarenka of Belarus, who competed at his first World Championships in 2007 and his most recent in 2019, where he had his highest finish, 9th. Bandarenka, who is ranked 19th in the Boxing Task Force (BTF) rankings, finished third at the European Qualifier to punch his ticket to these Olympics.

However, Isley brings his own great deal of experience, including a bronze medal at the 2017 Elite Men’s World Championships and another bronze at the 2019 Pan American Games, leaving Isley ranked 27th in the BTF rankings.

Follow all the action on NBC Olympics’ livestream, or watch on tape delay on the USA Network the following day. Time will be posted once confirmed.
