Mendoza and Rodriguez round out 2023 USA Boxing High Performance Team

by USA Boxing

The final two members of USA Boxing’s 2023 Elite High Performance Team have been solidified following their bronze medal performances at the recent Strandja Tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Alyssa Mendoza (Caldwell, Idaho) and Jewry Rodriguez (Houston, Texas) join the previously announced 11 members of the 2023 High Performance team and will now represent Team USA throughout the year at different international competitions.

“It was a very tight race in these two weights throughout the entire selection camp, which caused us to extend the evaluation period until after the Strandja Tournament,” stated Matt Johnson, USA Boxing High Performance Director. “Alyssa and Jewry performed very well at the competition and separated themselves from the others, which solidified their places on the team.”

The team has recently returned to Colorado Springs, Colo. for the upcoming European Boxing Tour, which will start next month in Finland. More information regarding the tour will be announced in the coming days.
